Azealia Banks | Liquorice (Explicit)

Seriously loving this new one from Azealia Banks!! When I first heard it I instantly thought of Inner City/Kevin Saunderson/Detroit Techno but with a 2012 twist! Lone's 'Pineapple Crush' sample also gives it that 90's feel-good sound, which is guaranteed to get your foot tappin' (if there are strangers present) and your booty poppin' (if you're on your ones in your room dancing in front of the mirror)! I love her smutty lyrics, it's x-rated naughty stuff or over 18's ears only... anyone who raps about men jiggling their dicks has cemented their place in my iTunes favourites!

Azealia looks amazing in the video, her body is bhhhangin'!!! Not many people can pull off leather chaps & a Stetson, but she's certainly one of the very few who can! ...Clint Eastwood circa 1966 being the other. Infamous English photographer Rankin directed the Western themed video, in which she dresses in an array of sexy cowgirl outfits. The styling is down to the amazing Nicola Formichetti, who is well known for frequently collaborating with Lady Gaga. I wonder if he took inspiration from blogger-extrodinaire Vintage Virgin? I immediately thought of her after seeing the video.

Some of the looks Azealia rocks ferociously in the video...

Azealia's definitely the new baddest bitch on the block and i'm really looking forward to checking out her '1991' EP, fingers crossed there's a few more tracks on there like Liquorice!

I'm absolutely loving the matching print trend at the minute, it reminds me of the way my Mam used to dress me as a child, decked out head-to-toe in wacky prints (see below).

For a while I think it was seen as rather uncool... maybe it still is and i'm just in denial, but I personally think it's super cute! Although I strongly advise against matching your dress, bag, shoes & eyeshadow... I still think that's a step too far in the OTT direction! But these gorgeous little matching top and bottom sets are perfect for the Summer! I purchased this one from Motel Rocks around a month ago when they had a 25% Jubilee discount code... I love a barg! I'm forever searching the Internet for discount codes, as it makes my shopping addiction more acceptable and softens the blow when my monthly Lloyds TSB statement comes through the door! I adore the palm leaf print (which I think looks suspiciously like another type of plant but i'll say no more on that one) and I think the pastel colours compliment it perfectly.

Rita Ora was getting her match ooorrrrn at Radio One's Hackney Weekend...

I can see this being a popular upcoming trend! Although I do think it's quite a daring one, so it might not be for everyone. I love it though and will be investing in some more matching pieces fo sho!

What are your thoughts on this trend?

Summer Vibes

Jessie Ware | 110%

Listening to the dulcet tones of Jessie Ware makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. She's just amazing and the fact she frequently collaborates with SBTRKT & Sampa, whom I love, is even better.

She's also recently released a cover of the Bobby Caldwell classic 'What You Won't Do For Love', best known (by us youngsters) for being sampled on the Tupac track 'Do For Love', one of my absolute fave Tupac records ever! This ones a bit more downtempo, it really showcases her soulful vocals...

Just a quick outfit post to show you what I wore out on Friday night...

On ma face: NARS Sheer Glow Foundation (unfortunately I have to mix Punjab & Barcelona together to get my perfect match which costs me an absolute arm & a leg!) | Urban Decay Naked2 on my eyes (Chopper & Half Baked) | Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer in no. 2 Light | Sephora Lash Plumper Mascara | MAC Eyebrow Pencil in Fling on my brows and E.L.F's Clear Lash & Brow Mascara to tame the little wispy buggers! | Soleil Tan De Chanel to give me a sun-kissed glow since i'm massively pale | NARS Laguna Bronzer to contour NARS Orgasm Illuminator & Blush Urban Decay's All Nighter Setting Spray (an absolute must for all-nighters!) | MAC lipsticks in Violetta & Pink Nouveau (blended together to create the perfect purpley-pink)

Standard toilet shot... who doesn't love taking pictures in the bogs?!

Can you believe how long my nail varnish has lasted?! Seche Vite is AH-MAZING!

Top: Cow Vintage |  Belt: Urban Outfitters Sale | Trousers: American Apparel 'Disco Pants' | Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell 'Litas' | Peace Sign Bling: Topshop

I tend to dress down/wear the same comfy outfits a lot through the week when i'm at work, so it's nice to show my outfits off from nights out when I make more of an effort & spruce myself up! I adore pink & leopard together, it has that tacky/kitsch/East End barmaid feel to it which is right up my street! As my top half was so in-yo-face I decided to dress it down with plain black on the bottom & minimal accessories. I'm absolutely loving my new peace sign panja/slave bracelet... i'm such a wannabe Bollywood babe! I'm also a big fan of matching my lips to my outfit at the moment, so I blended two of my faves together to create the perfect shade.

My aim is to try & get a new blog post up every day this week, as I feel i've neglected it a bit recently... hope you enjoy! :)

I have to get in a bikini in 3 weeks time & i'm absolutely dreading it!!! I'm not feeling all that body confident at the minute :( waaahhhhh! This is going on my fridge to hopefully stop me reaching for the Nutella!

Now don't get it twisted, I do actually like Rita Ora... more for her style than her music, although I do quite enjoy singing murdering 'R.I.P' when it comes on the radio (I bet Chase & Status are reaping the royalties on that one... sunning themselves in the Bahamas as I type!). I'm generally not the type to spread hate (make love, not war & all that ☮) but I feel it necessary to put it out there that i'm not feeling her new song 'How We Do', in which she dares to utter the words 'party & bullshit' ...and not just the once either! Being a Notorious B.I.G fan I am quite offended that they have used such an infamous Biggie lyric on what can only be described as a mediocre pop record. Shame on them!

I don't think Rita is going to set the charts alight with this one... though you'll probably hear it blasting out of that annoying kids phone at the back of the bus/train (buy some f**king headphones annoying kid!). I was expecting her to come out with something a bit more 'grimey', so to speak, possibly something in the range of 138-142 BPM, since Dubstep has now become radio friendly. It doesn't give her that distinctive sound that most popstars have these days, like for example when you hear a Katy Perry song on the radio for the first time you instantly know it's her. I don't think Miss Ora's quite found her 'Rita' sound yet but i'm sure she will evolve and develop it in time, in the same way RiRi has with hers.

She is incredibly beautiful and super stylish though! Plus she's dating Rob Kardashian and I do like to keep up with the Kardashians!

This is how we REALLY do...

I say all this now but a few weeks down the line when i've heard it played enough times on the radio you'll probs catch me humming along to it... oh how fickle of me!

Nope i'm not talking about life-saving medication... i'm talking about shoes! Dramz aside, I have actually fallen head over heels (how apt) in love with these multi-coloured brogues Rihanna was papped wearing last night in NYC...

If anyone can tell me wear she got 'em from I will give you my first-born child (only joking obvs ...don't go all Rumpelstiltskin on me!) I would be forever grateful though, even though the chance of me being able to afford these babies is slim to none... a girl can dream!

Disclaimer: If you do plan on trying to steal my first-born let it be known I carry pepper spray & a rape alarm on me at all times... I'm also a regular at Boxercise so babes packs a mean punch! Get meh?!

I'm a big fan of these 'week in photos' posts my fellow bloggers do and i'm an even bigger fan of Instagram (some might say addicted). My favourite thing to do is take pictures of food!! I the only one who gets properly pissed off at themselves when they take a bite out of something or a first mouthful and then think 'shit! I forgot to take a pic'??? Yes? I'm hanging my head in embarrassment! Not everyone understands it, my boyfriend thinks i'm a weirdo but I know my fellow Instagramers understand me! It's perfectly normal... right?! Obviously being an addict I have tonnes of pics on there, far too many to share on here, so i've selected a few faves (I've also thrown in a few poser ones... don't judge me!). I will probably make this a regular feature on here on Maiden of Wood so I hope you like 'em as much as I do! :)

Gotye | 'Somebody I Used To Know' Feat. Kimbra (M-Phazes Remix)

I really liked the original when it first came out and still do (although it can get little bit jarring when you've heard a song played a good few hundred times on the radio). This remix is amazing though, exactly my kind of thing! Really LuckyMe-esque... I simply LOVE it!!! The guy who remixed it is called M-phazes from Melbourne, Australia (click the link for his Soundcloud). One to watch I think!

P.s. I'm sure this has been said a million times already but how much does the girl who sings on the track look & sound like Katy Perry!

I want to start introducing make-up & beauty to my blog, as preening oneself is another one of my many passions in life! I'm a bit of a beauty fanatic and love nothing more than painting my nails various different colours and patterns! I recently discovered these cute little dog nail stickers on Zoella's blog (she's one of my fave bloggers & Youtubers the links to check her out, you won't be disappointed!). They're sold by a company called Jan Christie on eBay for a bargainous £2.30 + 10p P&P! She also has her own website which has a whole load of nail art and other cute little bits & bobs! They're just the cutest little things i've ever seen and are a cheap & cheerful way of creating salon-esque nail art without the salon prices! (trying my best not to sound like a TRESemmé advert right about now!).

I decided to go for pastel colours on my stiletto nails, as it recommends you use paler colours as a base in the instruction sheet that they come with, in order for the little pooches to really show up.

Step-by-step of how to apply the stickers...
  • I started by painting my nails with a Barry M basecoat (I cannot stress enough how important applying a basecoat is! Nobody likes discoloured yellow nails!).
  • I then applied two coats of my Models Own pastel varnishes.
  • I had already cut around each of the stickers before starting on my nail polish, so I then peeled back each of the stickers with a pair of tweezers and placed them on each nail.
  • I then sealed them with a coat of Barry M glitter polish in Pink Iridescent & finished off with a layer of Seche Vite 'The World's Finest Top Coat' (believe me, it really is!!!).
I did find the peeling back of the stickers quite fiddly to begin with but after a the initial few nails it got a lot easier.

Nail varnishes usedModels Own Baby Blues, Peach Sherbet, Lilac Dream, Pastel Pink & Lemon Meringue Barry M basecoat Barry M Pink Iridescent Seche Vite top coat

Golden Retriever | Rough Collie | Boxer | Bulldog | West Highland White Terrier

You can even create your own nail stickers on the website... Myleene Klass & Rochelle Wiseman were recently papped at Rochelle's hen party with her future hubby to be Marvin from JLS on their talons! If you wanna be a modern day ride or die chick you need your man's face on your nails ladies! Get meh?!

It's been a few days since I gave myself a pastel pooch mani and they're still going strong! Jan Christie recommends applying a fresh layer of top coat every few days to preserve the life of the stickers but paying that little bit more for a good quality top coat means you don't need to worry about that.

I hope you enjoyed this nail tutorial, lemme know if you decide to give it a go!
