Umberto Giannini Bloggers Event

Last Wednesday I was very kindly invited along to the Umberto Giannini (Jee-uh-NEEN-ee ...thank the lord for phonetics!) Bloggers Event at Selfridges Birmingham. It was a fab night from start to finish; the staff were absolutely lovely, and we were pampered, fed & watered like total celebrities! It's something I could most definitely get used to! In true Geordie lass style I took full advantage of the free cava, and had a good go at eating my weight in maltesers & toffee popcorn.

Mark Caswell, UG's creative director, gave us a brilliant presentation of the hottest hairdo's on the catwalk. High fashion isn't really somewhere I look to for hairspiration; as my 'fro is impossible to style into anything other than, well, a 'fro. Seeing all of the amazing plaits & up-do's did make me slightly envious, but then again I wouldn't change my hair for the world... i'd be lost without it! One of the big trends Mark touched on during his presentation was '80's punk', as seen on the models in Prada & Jean Paul Gaultier's shows. I'd definitely say this is the look Portia, my hair stylist for the evening & new raving partner, was going for when she worked her magic on my candy floss curls. I'm quite fussy when it comes to my hair, after many years of having to deal with an unruly, frizzy mane; I have finally been able to tame the beast! She did a really fab job, but for some reason I feel really ugly with my hair up, I guess it's like a sort of comfort blanket in a way. I even travel all the way back to Newcastle to have my hair cut, because i'm that much of a fussy madame!

We got to sample some of UG's amazing products from their new 'Frizzi' range, and were given a bottle of the miracle worker with argan oil to take home with us in our goodie bags... and that stuff really does work absolute miracles! I used it the next day on my cray cray troll doll huurrr after I shampooed & conditioned it, and it left my hair feeling super soft & silky. The Frizzi range has been developed by none other than Paul Gooch, UG's Artistic Director, who has won awards for his spectacular hair & makeup in many of Tim Burtons movies (Alice in Wonderland, Dark Shadows, Sweeney Todd etc.). He has tried and tested these products out on film sets in order to see how they fair under abnormal levels of heat & humidity. So you know you're gonna be ok during an 8 hour shift at work, or a night on the town!

This was my hair the morning after the event (I must do some crazy break dancing moves in my sleep, like spinning on my head & shit)...

Shirt: Vintage | Faux leather Trousers: Topshop | Boots: Topshop | Bag: Vintage Moschino

I decided it would be a great idea to do a drunken OOTN when I got home, I think the hairspray went to my head!

The goodie bag was specifically tailored to fit my hair needs, so I have some fab curly products to test out. I will keep all my fellow curly gurls updated on these! A big thank you to the UG team for putting on such a fabulous event, you're all amazing! :)

Have you tried any UG products? I'd love to know your thoughts & opinions!
